Panel One of the IPBN Tourism Conference

Wellness and Health Tourism

The IPBN’s second annual Tourism Conference is set to occur in the Algarve on Wednesday, May 24 at the Quinta do Lago Clubhouse from 0900 to 1pm and promises an engaging line-up of keynote speakers and a series of panel discussions on topics related to the tourism industry in the Algarve and the world at large.

The first panel discussion, moderated by IPBN member Andy O’Donoghue, a technology broadcaster and columnist with TodayFM and the Irish Mail on Sunday who held a number of medtech executive positions over the last decade, will focus squarely on the popular topic of Wellness and Health Tourism and will call to the stage Elaine Godley, Founder of The Perfect Health HUB alongside Miriam Kerins Hussey, Co-Founder of Soul Space, and Prof. Joana Apolónio from the Algarve Bio Medical Centre.

Elaine began her journey as an entrepreneur and business woman in the late 1970s. According to the award-winning Health and Wellbeing Mentor of 2022, “I ran a successful kitchen business and went on to spend 12 years within corporate employment in the City of London as an administrator for consultancy firms within an accountancy practice, then progressing through several roles and firms to become CEO of a law firm and COO of a business consultancy with over 220 members, as well as running many projects as an interim to empower teams to achieve higher results.”In 1997, Elaine graduated with an MBA in Legal Practice from Nottingham Law School and has since become a multiple #1 best-selling author, podcast host, and mentor to hundreds of individuals and businesses looking to become more effective, productive, efficient, and healthier. On April 5th 2022, exactly 46 years after her father’s untimely death from cancer, Elaine founded the Perfect Health Hub, which she describes as “an in-depth health resource pool jam packed full of health education, tools, resources, self-development, interviews, recipes and much more... It is designed to give you the knowledge, confidence and support to be accountable for your own health and wellbeing, and to build your own version of 'Perfect Health’.” As a cancer survivor herself, Elaine had promised her late Mother that she would teach others how to live a balanced life, reverse serious health, and be proactive to avoid a nasty diagnosis, and she is delivering that promise through the HUB and through her participation in the upcoming conference.

Joining the panel is qualified pharmacist Miriam Kerins Hussey, Co-Founder of Soul Space, an empowering movement that focuses on raising consciousness, awakening inner potential, and inspiring greater health and performance through integrative mind, body, and soul programs, speaking engagements, and events. Miriam’s passion for holistic health and wellbeing led her to become a qualified Integrative Health and wellness coach, Yoga and meditation facilitator who designs and delivers executive, corporate, and personal wellness retreats, seminars, and programs. Miriam describes the Soul Space as being “passionate about growing awareness and awakening our clients to how they can best live and thrive in our modern world, in a more healthy and prosperous way…it is important that we allow our awareness, knowledge, and understanding of how the mind, body, and soul are directly linked and connected to the development of our emotional, physical, and psychological health and wellbeing.” Her decotion to lifestyle as medicine has led her to be awarded The Business All Star award for “Thought Leader in Human Health and Performance.” Certainly her presence on the stage will add an integral element to the discussion.

Finally, Professor Joana Apolónio will bring insights from her position as Researcher and Scientific Project Manager at the Algarve Bio Medical Centre (ABC) and as Professor at the Universidade do Algarve (UAlg) to the discussion. With a degree in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences at the Lisbon School of Health Technology, a Masters in Biomedical Sciences from the New University of Lisbon, and a PhD in Mechanisms of Disease and Regenerative Medicine from the University of Algarve. During her PhD journey, Joana said, “I had the opportunity to learn more through the experience of successful scientists and to improve my knowledge and technical skills in the biomedical research field, which was crucial to continue my academic studies through a path of excellence.
