The Algarve is known worldwide as a spectacular holiday destination, but the tone is beginning to change as the region is becoming better known as a destination for business and innovation. 

Earlier this year, the IPBN’s 2021 Algarve series took a deep dive into its status as a burgeoning tech hub in which we reported that the University of the Algarve’s Wild Tech Campus Tech Park is enabling the technologically inclined to set up shop in Portugal’s southernmost coast. 

At the beginning of this year, Hugo Barros of the Algarve STP told us that, “[The Algarve is] like Silicon Valley. The Algarve STP…tries to help support international systems here by helping with language differences, setups, visa services, and more through our incubators. Our Tech Hub is an umbrella, with each partner maintaining their own partnerships and each activities’ goals and scope can be different. Masters degrees, and PhDs, training, intermediations, health and clinical services, and more can be done under our umbrella.”

Hugo, innovation expert and coordinator of the Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division at the University of Algarve, gave a very insightful talk about the Algarve’s booming technology sector and how it is paving a bright future for the region.

Our members had the chance to network and share their knowledge with each other, and we certainly gained some great insights from this. Overall, it was a fantastic event and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
