The IPBN was delighted to hold at the Ireland Embassy in Lisbon, another one of its Conversation series with a leader.

This time, we welcomed distinguished Irish Ocean and Human Health expert and Champion Surfer Dr. Easkey Britton of the National University of Ireland in Galway.

Easkey shared her passion and work into relationship between people and nature, especially water environments, and her post-doctoral research at the Whitaker Institute, National University of Ireland, Galway, where she co-leads the interdisciplinary NEARHealth work-package on nature-based solutions, exploring the use of blue and green space to restore health and wellbeing.

Easkey developed on her work on SOPHIE, European Commission-funded ‘Seas, Oceans and Public Health in Europe’ research program, which focuses on ensuring everyone has a voice in setting the direction of oceans and human health research, identifying key people who should be involved in the stakeholder discussions.

A life-long surfer, Easkey’s parents taught her to surf when she was four years old and since then, she channels her passion for surfing and the sea into social change.

She gave really interesting insights into how her career has progressed, the role of focus in her work and how important the ocean and nature are in helping to reflect and renew. Her research indicates that nature and the seas are being proven to be essential to people's physical and mental wellbeing and that the business and leadership programmes of the future will try and help people to disconnect from "always on" culture and put them into nature in order to help them back to thinking and reflecting deeply, critical elements of the human experience.

Passionate about facilitating creative & collaborative processes, Easkey founded Like Water, a platform to explore innovative ways to reconnect with who we are, our environment and each other, through water.

Special thank you tor all our members who attended and to H.E. Ambassador Ralph Victory who hosted and supported the event.
