On February 22 in Coimbra, a city steeped in history, the Ireland Portugal Business Network hosted an insightful event delving into the challenges and prospects of talent development, acquisition, and retention in Portugal and Ireland.

We were delighted to count on the presence of H.E. Alma Ní Choigligh, Ambassador of Ireland to Portugal and Geoffrey Graham, Chair of the IPBN Board and Senior Partner at EDGE - International Lawyers

The potential 50 million decrease in the EU workforce over the next 30 years, compounded by exacerbated skill shortages due to the pandemic, demands immediate attention within the context of ongoing economic and industrial transformations.

These pressing challenges, occurring during significant shifts such as the green and digital transition, necessitate sweeping reforms on a large scale. Simultaneously, the evolving landscape of AI presents both uncharted challenges and promising opportunities for organisations, adding an additional layer of complexity that requires careful understanding and navigation.

In the aftermath of the 2023 European Year of Skills, with the backdrop of Coimbra's rich academic heritage, this gathering aspires to catalyse innovative solutions for nurturing talent pipelines.

The event aimed to tackle the pressing issues faced by companies in both countries, from skill mismatches and talent acquisition hurdles to the imperative of retaining top performers in a competitive market.

The "Breeding ground for talent" event is part of the IPBN's mission to strengthen the ties between Ireland and Portugal and to create new opportunities for collaboration. The event provided an opportunity for businesses to network with other organisations and learn about the latest trends in talent development, acquisition, and retention.

Special thank you to our partners and sponsors (check the image) who made this event possible.
