The Ireland Portugal Business Network was very pleased to invite members and guests speakers to a special event, “Algarve Blue Economy Innovation and European Funds,” taking place on April 9 from 10h to 12h at the CCDR Algarve in the presence of José Apolinário, President of CCDR Algarve, Professor Patrícia Pinto, UAlg, Vice-Rector for Partnerships and the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) and Antonia Correia, President of KiPT CoLAB and the Code Blue Project.
This event followed perfectly the 7th edition of the IPBN Sustainability Conference held in Lisbon on 17 March, which focused on the Ocean and Blue Economy. Bringing the conversation to the Algarve — a region deeply connected to the ocean — this session explored both the challenges facing coastal environments and the significant opportunities the Blue Economy presents for sustainable regional growth.
We were delighted to welcome Cristiano Cabrita, Vice President of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Comission who opened the conference and Maria de Lurdes Serpa Carvalho, Diretora de Unidade de Planeamento e Desenvolvimento Regional na CCDR Algarve, who shared insights into the region’s Smart Specialisation Strategy, where the Blue Economy plays a central role.
Professor Patrícia Pinto, UAlg, Vice-Rector for Partnerships and the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU) shared with us the SEA-EU 2.0 European University of the Seas initiative and Antonia Correia, President of KiPT CoLAB, advancing innovation and sustainability in tourism presented their new CodeBLUE project.
This event offered a valuable opportunity to engage with regional leaders, researchers, and innovators, and to better understand how the Algarve is positioning itself at the forefront of Blue Economy development.
This event was organised for everyone interested in ocean sustainability, regional innovation, and the future opportunities emerging from the Blue Economy..
Thank you to everyone who was present that morning.
