From Media Director to Voice-Over Artist: Shane Casey’s Creative Evolution

Spotlight on the Unexpected Career of Shane Casey

The Ireland Portugal Business Network is delighted to welcome Shane Casey as a new member. With a rich background in advertising and a growing portfolio in voice-over and acting, Shane brings a unique blend of creativity, commercial experience, and a deep love for storytelling to the network.

Shane began his career in media as the Media Director of an agency he co-founded in Ireland, which he ran with his business partner for two decades. “We started it from scratch back in the early 1990s,” Shane recalls, “and built up a diverse portfolio of clients across FMCG, tourism & leisure, retail, entertainment, automotive and financial services.”

A turning point came unexpectedly when a hotel group client couldn't afford a professional voice-over for their ad campaign. Shane stepped in: “That was my very first foray into voice-over work. To my surprise, it not only worked well, but soon I became the go-to voice-over for several of our clients.”

Following his departure from the advertising world in 2012, Shane formally trained in voice-over and acting. He also pursued acting classes and, over time, built a new business around his performance talents. “This combined my love for storytelling and performance with the commercial instincts I’d honed from years in advertising,” he said.

His career has been anything but linear. A standout side project saw Shane run an Irish music festival on the Isle of Man for five years, managing everything from artist bookings to event marketing. “It was a fantastic learning curve and really deepened my appreciation for live performance and production,” he noted — both of which continue to inform his creative work today.

Now working as a professional voice-over artist and actor, Shane continues to draw on his previous experience. “I’m a professional communicator who understands how to bring scripts and stories to life in a way that resonates with audiences and clients alike.” His skillset spans not only creative storytelling but also strategic thinking, strong organisation, and adaptability — qualities developed through years of high-pressure media work.

One recent project involved voicing Sir Ernest Shackleton for the Ernest Shackleton Museum in Ireland. “Although Shackleton did not achieve his ambition to cross the Antarctic continent, he became renowned for his leadership, honesty, and humanitarian spirit,” Shane shared. “It was an honour to step into his voice.”

Shane’s philosophy in both advertising and acting has always been solution-oriented. “When conventional wisdom says ‘it can’t be done,’ that’s actually where the interesting work begins.” Whether it’s negotiating budget-friendly campaigns or lending his voice to ambitious projects, Shane approaches each challenge with creativity and commitment.

As a new IPBN member, Shane is enthusiastic about connecting with others across Portugal and Ireland. “I’d love the network to know that I’m open for collaboration,” he said. “Whether it’s commercials, documentaries, museum pieces, character work, or narration, I’m ready to bring energy, commitment, and creativity to new voice-over work.”

We’re thrilled to have Shane on board and look forward to seeing — and hearing — more from him in the near future.
