Figs on the Funcho is an award-winning retreat centre in the Algarve, Portugal, specialising in small-group art retreats, vegetarian cooking holidays, and immersive countryside experiences. Located near São Bartolomeu de Messines, our peaceful riverside setting offers adults a place to slow down, learn, and reconnect with nature.

Our programmes combine hands-on creative learning with seasonal Mediterranean-inspired food, guided local experiences, and time to rest in a calm, rural landscape. Painting retreats take place outdoors in the surrounding countryside, while cooking holidays include market visits and vineyard wine tastings, offering a deeper connection to place.

Accommodation includes a private retreat villa and eco-friendly riverside glamping, supporting an intimate and experience-led environment rather than a traditional hotel stay.
