1. Describe your business in two paragraphs.

We are JJMT Photography - Janice and Janine McNally-Trainor. We are a wife and wife team of Wedding Photographers! We mostly photograph weddings, engagement, family, corporate and real estate. We are in our first year of business in Portugal and are very excited about the prospect of growth in the coming years.

2. What are your company's Unique Selling Points (USPs) in Portugal ?

We offer our photography services to all nationalities, mostly international due to our lack of the Portuguese language at the minute! But we have found we attract more Irish couples than most where weddings are concerned. We don’t mind this at all because they are always super laid back and it’s great to connect.  Sometimes there can be a language barrier for expats and internationals in Portugal, so at the minute this is one of our strengths living and offering a service here in English.  We work mostly with expats for corporate events & real estate projects, but we do hope to branch out more as our Portugues language skills improve.

3. What achievement/success story(ies) are you most proud of?

We have made tremendous growth in such a short time in Portugal, making great connections with various influentials in the industry. JJMT Photography has been featured in magazines in both Portugal and Ireland as well as featured weddings in many online publications that we can feel proud of.  We have a vision of continued growth in the future.

4. What are your business current challenges and in the 2/3 years to come?

As with any business in their first year, there are challenges. But we are optimistic and excited for what is to come.  Our main goal for 2019 is to strengthen our marketing strategies, increase our online presence and network with other professionals in the industry.  It goes without saying that we will always be improving our technical skills to provide the best service we can to our clients.  We will not only be attending workshops but we have plans to host a few photography workshops / events of our own in the near future that we are also excited about.

5. What do you think makes Portugal an attractive destination to conduct your business?

Portugal’s long sandy beaches, delicious food, quirky wedding venues, and welcoming people all provide couples an absolutely unforgettable wedding experience. With our close proximity to Ireland, it will always (hopefully) be an attractive option for those looking to tie the knot here.  It’s not only a great destination for weddings but also for expats investing in property / doing business here, with exciting opportunities for all.

6. What sectors do you think will thrive in Portugal in the coming years and why?

The start up community in Portugal have been thriving recently and I have no doubt it will continue to be recognised on an international level. I have seen a number of co-working spaces pop up over the city, filled with digital nomads or entrepreneurs who have recognised the benefits of operating in Portugal. Hopefully more growth will bring more prosperity.

7. What is the best business advice you have ever received?

“Know your why”. Find out what motivates you and why you are doing what you are doing. It will help inspire & motivate you daily to keep pursuing your goals.

8. How do you think the IPBN can help you achieve your objectives and what do you expect from your IPBN membership

Networking is an important part of doing business in any foreign country, so we recognise the importance of it. But so is having a sense of community. Through IPBN we can connect with like minded people, educate ourselves in other related industries and utilise the business expertise of the other IPBN members. Likewise if anyone needs a photographer for future projects we would be delighted to offer our services.

9. Favourite destinations in Portugal and why?

One of our favourite destinations in Portugal is the Alentejo region. It’is not too far from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet it provides a great get away. We cycled from Lisbon to Lagos, getting to see the coast from a very different perspective, so we absolutely love tranquillity of this region. We also enjoy the wine!

10. Favourite destinations in Ireland and why?

One of our favourite destinations in Ireland has to be the Antrim Coast. It’s a great place to take in the scenery and is the perfect road trip. It’s peaceful, rugged and beautiful. There are lots of places worth stopping off and visiting along the way.  Bushmills distillery and the Giant’s Causeway being just a few.
