1. Describe your business in two paragraphs. 

MESPIL’s current mission is to be the leading end-to-end property developer and operator on the Algarve, providing a peerless service. By leveraging the century plus experience of our team, execution of our mission will see a longer-term vision realised of moving into a pan European fully regulated property fund.

2. What are your company's Unique Selling Points (USPs) in Portugal ?

At MESPIL, our service is end-to-end - Our properties create a passive income without all the hassle and heavy lifting that comes with other real estate investments. We offer smart strategic and well researched investment options, but most of all, ones we believe and invest in ourselves. So, what’s your investment, is our investment too.

3. What achievement/success story(ies) are you most proud of?

We are very proud of the team we are building both on the ground in Portugal and within the wider MESPIL group ensuring we are scaling in line with our business objectives. Everyone loves what they do, each day is infused with motivation and passion driving our business forward.

4. What are your business current challenges and in the 2/3 years to come?

Shortage of supply continues to keep property prices strong, so our current business challenge is timely evolving of our proprietary technology eco-system. This will allow us seamlessly to scale, on-board new geo sales partners and customers, managing our business in real time and from anywhere.

Taking a longer view, international political instability and any subsequent downturn imposed on our industry are front and centre. We are active in scenario planning and always look for creative ways to niche out opportunity. Regarding Brexit for example, we will continue to concentrate on and develop other strategic markets, reducing any reliance on the UK market alone.

5. What do you think makes Portugal an attractive destination to conduct your business? 

Government introduced initiatives offering international investors attractive tax regime’s and residency pathway are massive incentives for FDI into Portugal, also creating significant market opportunity for us. In addition, a booming tourist industry and Portugal gaining global awareness with accolades such as best quality of life, friendliest countries for expats, safest countries, best for golf and more, only further bolsters its appeal. MESPIL have an exciting opportunity to continue acquiring the right projects for our clients capitalising on this demand.

6. What sectors do you think will thrive in Portugal in the coming years and why?

Ireland has been excellent at attracting and curating the required business landscape, space and talent required by tech companies to set up operations. Certainly, Portugal understands the future value of this industry with IT a significant growth sector. A continued drive in investment could rapidly position its emergence as a serious European tech-hub replicating some of Ireland’s success.

8. How do you think the IPBN can help you achieve your objectives and what do you expect from your IPBN membership

IPBN membership helps to broaden our business network and we have already been introduced to some fantastic people and secured their services on some of our projects. We fully support Irish economic interests in Portugal and vice versa and are looking forward to getting more involved and supporting IPBN.

9. Favourite destinations in Portugal and why?

One of the things I love about Portugal is that there are so many aspects that I haven’t even scratched the surface exploring. This summer I plan to do a road trip through Costa Vicentina right up to the semi-secret gem that is Comporta. I’m looking forward to wide and wild beaches, having a beer at sunset and enjoying the low key, slower pace which I’m told even in high season is not overbearingly populated.

10. Favourite destinations in Ireland and why?

I don’t have to go very far as I am spoilt with all that Dalkey has to offer on my doorstep, a bustling heritage village with great pubs and restaurants and stunning coastal walks. Outside of Dalkey, hands down it has to be Cork – my best friend lives there so I get down several times a year. It might be small but lacks none of the warmth and charm. It is laid back with great food, diverse landscapes, and hosts the brilliant Guinness Jazz Festival each year.
